IntroductionPicture a woman, bobbed hair, short dress, and a cigarette in hand. Now think about a woman, tired, steadfast, and fighting for her rights. The roaring twenties were a time of change in equality for women. Politics, economics, and social standards for woman certainly developed during the twenties. If triggering events such as the ratification of the 19th Amendment, protests with the Women’s Trade Union League, and the start of the flapper age had not occurred, women’s rights and social freedoms would be drastically different for women today. Through exploration of women’s rights and independence in the 1920s, the Progressive Era was one of the most meaningful and significant times in American history for women.
